August 11, 2017 – The writ of election for the constituency of Saskatoon Fairview was issued today by Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan, to Wendy De Sa, Saskatoon Fairview Returning Officer, for a by-election on September 7, 2017.
The Saskatoon Fairview seat has been vacant since the resignation of MLA Jennifer Campeau on June 26, 2017. Per Section 46(1) of The Legislative Assembly Act, 2007, a by-election to fill a vacancy in the Legislative Assembly must be held within six months after a seat becomes vacant.
“Since the MLA’s resignation in late June, my office has been planning for a by-election in Saskatoon Fairview,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “We’re fortunate to have Wendy De Sa return as the returning officer, a position she held in the 2016 general election. Together with our head office team, they have opened a returning office, scouted out polling locations, recruited office staff and begun the numerous activities that are associated with administering a by-election.”
