October 30, 2024 – The Second Preliminary Count of ballots for Saskatchewan’s 30th General Election was completed today in Regina.

This was the second of a three-stage process and consisted of counting the 20,427 vote by mail ballots that were returned to Elections Saskatchewan by October 26, 2024. This count was held centrally in Regina. Results were updated throughout today at:  https://results.elections.sk.ca/

“A total of 16 teams of election officials counted ballots today, and registered political parties and candidates observed the process,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “Today’s counting involved opening sealed envelopes to confirm that hand-written on each ballot was either the candidate’s name, party leader’s name, or the name of the political party.”

“All 61 constituencies have mail-in ballots. Our priority to begin today was the nine constituencies where the margin of difference between the top two candidates was less than the vote by mail ballots to be counted. My officials counted these nine boxes first today.”

A final round of counting and verifying takes place November 9. During this Final Count, all vote by mail ballots received between October 27 and November 7 are counted, along with all hospital and remand centre votes, centrally in Regina. The Final Count is also conducted in returning offices, where returning officers will verify the numbers generated from the First Preliminary Count on Monday, October 28.
