Condo Access, Upcoming RPP “Micro Topic” Briefings, and RPP Name Change

Condo Access

You may be aware that section 36.11(1) of The Condominium Property Act requires that, before entering a unit or any common property for which a condominium owner exercises exclusive use, a candidate shall give his or her name and address to the corporation or to a person authorized for the purpose by the corporation. I am providing you this information in accordance with the requirements of section 283.1 of The Election Act, 1996 and to assist you and your candidates in fulfilling the requirements of section 36.11 of The Condominium Property Act.

To facilitate this process and make it easier for your candidates and their volunteers, Elections Saskatchewan has been working with ISC to obtain an extract of all properties within the province identified as “condo parcels” and to add the name and address of the authorized agent for the condo parcel. I believe this information will be of assistance as you plan your campaign activities.

This information, in the form of an Excel spreadsheet, will be placed on the FTP site for registered political parties to access by end of day on Monday, August 24. If you have questions about how to access this data, or if you cannot remember your login information, you can contact Jordan Arendt, Director of IT, at [email protected].

Upcoming RPP “Micro Topic” Briefings

You’ll know that the presence of COVID-19 meant that it was not possible for Elections Saskatchewan to hold its annual face-to-face meeting with the province’s registered political parties. I was disappointed as those meetings have offered an important opportunity for my office to interact with yours and exchange information.

Over the past several months, we have been working to finalize a great number of processes and procedures that will look different from past events – running an election during a pandemic is a truly unique experience. I want to ensure that you, as Chief Official Agent, are aware of what we are planning and how it may impact you. With that in mind, we have come up with a number of “micro topics” on election processes and procedures that we want to share with you, each being about an hour and taking place online over a video conferencing application.

The first of these micro topics will focus on our plans for “vote by mail” and how those have been impacted by COVID-19. We anticipate a greatly increased number of vote by mail applications and we have had to radically redesign our system. This first micro topic session will be held on Thursday, August 13 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. My staff will send you an invite before the end of the day and you are free to invite one other representative from your party if you wish.

I look forward to sharing our plans with you and telling you more about what we are doing to ensure that the people of Saskatchewan can vote safely this October.

Name Change – Registered Political Party

Finally, I wanted to ensure that you were aware that Wexit Saskatchewan has formally changed their name in accordance with The Election Act, 1996 to Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Boda
