Updated Expense Limits & Reminder of Key Dates

2023 Expense Limits

Every year, in accordance with legislation, the expense limits for candidates and registered political parties are updated based on the consumer price index (CPI).

CPI data recently became available and updated limits have now been posted to our website. These are the expense limits in effect throughout the 2023 calendar year. These figures can be found within the “Candidates & Parties” section of our website under “Political Finance Legislation” or you can find them directly at https://cdn.elections.sk.ca/upload/Expense-Limits-2023.pdf.

Please note that the expense limits that were in effect for 2022 apply to the by-election held in Saskatoon Meewasin in September 2022.

Key Dates

A reminder of two key dates:

  • Monday, March 27: Deadline for registered political parties to file their election expense return for the Saskatoon Meewasin by-election.
  • Monday, May 1: Deadline for registered political parties to file their fiscal period return. The 2022 fiscal period is available within ELMS for preparation of this return.

I would also like to remind you that legislation does not allow me to grant an extension for either the election expense return or the fiscal period return.

If you require any assistance with login or have any questions about the ELMS application, please contact Aaron Thompson at [email protected].

I hope that 2023 is off to a good start for you and I look forward to working with you throughout the calendar year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Boda
