Pending By-Elections and other Updates

Pending By-Elections

While you are most likely to know, I want to formally communicate to you that Elections Saskatchewan is preparing to administer two by-elections in the constituencies of Regina Coronation Park and Lumsden-Morse.

As we learn more about the administration of those events, I will be in contact with you through a By-Election Communique. If I choose to implement any pilot projects (or to test any alternate procedures, equipment or technology in the language of section 5.1 of The Election Act, 1996), I will provide you with the required notice through a By-Election Communique. I look forward to sharing more information about the administration of these events as it becomes available.

Form Management

As you prepare for these upcoming by-elections, please ensure that you retrieve any forms or documents you need to submit to my office from the Elections Saskatchewan website rather than using copies you have saved. Many of these forms have changed so ensuring that you have the most up to date copy of the form will save rework and resubmission.

As we approach next year’s general election, we will continue to update forms, guides and manuals. I would strongly recommend that you always check our website before relying on a previously saved document. I appreciate your diligence in this regard.

Transfer of Funds between Constituency Associations

Last Friday, March 17, my office advised you of the process and required documentation for any transfer of funds between constituency associations arising due to the change in constituency boundaries as a result of the Constituency Boundary Commission’s work.

Should you have any questions about this process, or if you require more assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Director of Finance, Aaron Thompson at 306.570.2134 or [email protected].

Key Dates

A reminder of two key dates:

  • Monday, March 27: Deadline for registered political parties to file their election expense return for the Saskatoon Meewasin by-election.
  • Monday, May 1: Deadline for registered political parties to file their fiscal period return. The 2022 fiscal period is available within ELMS for preparation of this return.

Wishing you all the best.  I hope that you will not hesitate to be in touch with me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Boda
Chief Electoral Officer
Province of Saskatchewan
