May is Voter Registration Month

May is Voter Registration Month

For a second year, I am proud to say that May will be Voter Registration Month in Saskatchewan.

An accurate, up-to-date voters list is of critical importance as an election draws near. Every voter on our list is sent a Voter Information Card (VIC) with information on when, where and how to vote. The VIC also makes it faster and easier for our election workers to process voters when they arrive at a voting location. And, as you well know, an accurate and comprehensive list is a significant benefit for political parties and candidates when you canvass your constituencies.

Over the coming month, you may see advertisements encouraging voters to register or to update/confirm their voter information. We will be running ads on social media, in select print publications, and on billboards. You may even hear my voice talking about voter registration over the radio when you’re driving.

On the more innovative side, we have also been sending birthday cards to residents of the province on their 18th birthday encouraging them to scan a QR code and register to vote. If you would like to learn more, or to see a sample of the birthday card, you can do so here: https://www.elections.sk.ca/voters/future-voters/.

Over the coming month, I hope that you will share our voter registration message with your supporters and party members. We all benefit from improve voter registration coverage here in the province and the result is a better, more well managed election for all of us. Potential Candidates

While candidates for election cannot be officially nominated until the writs of election are issued, my office does collect and publish a list of potential candidates on our website. This list, sorted by both constituency and by political party/independent status, can be found here: https://www.elections.sk.ca/candidates-political-parties/candidates/.

If your registered political party would like potential candidates posted online, you must complete and submit Form E-516 – Notice of Selection of Potential Candidate by Registered Political Party (attached). This form can be found on our website under https://www.elections.sk.ca/candidates-political-parties/forms-and-guides/ and can be submitted individually for each candidate or can be submitted as a composite using Form E-516C (also attached). You must also submit a completed Form E-401 – Appointment / Consent of the Financial Agent of a Candidate.

If any of your potential candidates are trying to open bank accounts and require confirmation of their status, please send an email with the candidate’s name, along with a completed E-401 to Aaron Thompson at [email protected]. Please direct any questions on this process to Aaron.
