New Political Party Registered

Saskatchewan United Party added to Register of Political Parties

Earlier today, I informed the organizers of the Saskatchewan United Party that their application under sections 224 and 225 of The Election Act, 1996 fully complied with the legislation. I have added Saskatchewan United Party to the register of political parties effective November 30, 2022.

As a registered political party, Saskatchewan United Party will be able to incur expenses, solicit and receive contributions, participate in the Province’s political contributions tax credit regime, and field candidates for election to the Legislative Assembly.

Saskatoon Meewasin By-Election – Candidate Returns

I have mentioned several times that the deadline for candidates to file their Saskatoon Meewasin by-election expense returns is Tuesday, December 27. Given the Christmas long weekend, this deadline could be challenging for some of your candidates and their business managers.

I will again ask that you contact your candidates from the by-election and strongly encourage them to begin working on their returns as soon as possible. Audited returns must be completed and submitted to my office by the deadline. The holiday season will not be a valid reason for a candidate to receive an extension on their expense return.

Our office will be closed to the public on both December 23 and December 26 and we will not have anyone available to provide support on those days. We are also asking that anyone who needs to drop off materials between December 27 and December 30 to contact Aaron Thompson, Director of Finance, at [email protected] to arrange a time.

Modernization Update

My office has been making significant progress on our modernization plans for the 2024 general election. I think it would be beneficial to provide an update to Chief Official Agents early in the new year.

If this is something that you would be interested in attending, please email my executive coordinator, Sarah Wright at [email protected] and confirm your interest. I believe that we could present something to you around the end of January, depending on your schedules.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Boda
Chief Electoral Officer
Province of Saskatchewan
