While we are just a few days into the writ period for the Kindersley, Melfort and Swift Current by-elections, I want to share a few items of interest with you, including information on proclamations, polling locations, the preliminary voters list, and some upcoming deadlines.

Proclamations Available and List of Polling Locations

An election proclamation is a valuable source of information about an election in each constituency. On one page, it includes a constituency map, all regular, advance and mobile polling locations, as well as details on voting times and returning officer contact information. While our returning officers will provide nominated candidates with copies of the proclamation, they are also available on our website at www.elections.sk.ca/2018byelections — select the constituency you are interested in and “Proclamation” will be the fifth link in the list.

On the subject of polling locations, I would also like to share with you an electronic file which contains polling location information for all three constituencies. You will find this Excel file attached to this communique. If you have any questions about this file, please contact Jennifer Colin at 306.787.4061 or [email protected].

Preliminary Voters List

As mentioned on Friday, the preliminary voters lists for all three constituencies are available to you as of this morning. PDF and CSV files have been posted to our FTP site. Your existing user accounts will still be active but if you have trouble remembering your user account or password, please contact Son Lu, IT Analyst, at [email protected].

Upcoming Deadlines

Finally, just a quick reminder of two upcoming deadlines.

Monday, February 12 is the last day for registered political parties to update (or confirm) the information found in the register of political parties. As per Section 226 of The Election Act, 1996, this must happen with ten days of a writ of election being issued.

Tuesday, February 13 at 2 p.m. is the nomination deadline. Please have your candidates contact their local returning officer in advance of this date to review the nomination package to ensure it is all in order. There is no need to wait until the last day.  By legislation, we have no flexibility on this deadline.

Thank you for your attention to these important matters. I hope the coming days and weeks bring some more temperate weather for your candidates and volunteers.

Dr. Michael Boda
Chief Electoral Officer
Province of Saskatchewan
