Final Results for the RNE By-Election

Final Results

After the completion of the final count, Yens Pedersen of the N.D.P. remains the successful candidate. The final results, including absentee ballots, are shown below:

  • Yens Pedersen, New Democratic Party (N.D.P.) – 2,689
  • Gary Grewal, Saskatchewan Party – 1,948
  • Ken Grey, PC Party of Saskatchewan – 142
  • Jessica Schroeder, Saskatchewan Green Party – 96
  • Reid Hill, Saskatchewan Liberal Party – 67
  • Mark W Regel, Western Independence Party of Saskatchewan – 37

Turnout, as a percentage of registered voters, was 40.04 percent. In the 2016 general election, turnout as a percentage of registered voters was 57.81 percent.

Back in March, I told you, by way of a 29th Electoral Cycle Communique for Chief Official Agents that, moving forward, we would be placing poll by poll results from by-elections on our website as soon as we can produce them after each event. At that time, I indicated that it would likely take about one month from polling day for this to happen – at present, I see no reason why we would not be able to meet this target. Therefore, you can expect to see poll by poll results from the Regina Northeast by-election by mid-October 2018. If that date should change drastically, I will be in contact with you. I will also be in touch on the day the results are posted online.

Key Dates

Finally, just one more reminder of a few upcoming dates and deadlines.

  • Friday, October 5, 2018– The returning officer will return the writ of election to my office, ending the election period. Once this happens, I will inform the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of the successful candidate, which allows the Clerk to formally swear in the new member.
  • Wednesday, December 12, 2018– Deadline for candidates to file their audited return of election expenses.
  • Tuesday, March 12, 2019– Deadline by which registered political parties must file their audited return of election expenses. Information about the online application currently being developed for use by parties to complete their election event return will be forwarded in the coming weeks.

Finally, while there is no set date attached, candidates and registered political parties are eligible to be reimbursed for audit fees (up to the maximum limit for 2018) associated with the audit of election event returns. As soon as is practical, send the invoice for these audit fees to Jennifer Colin ([email protected]), along with proof of payment, and she will process a request for reimbursement.
