We’re one week into the Saskatoon Fairview by-election and, as all of you will have no doubt heard, Elections Saskatchewan will now begin preparing for another by-election due to the resignation of Mr. Bill Boyd, MLA for Kindersley. Given the announced resignation date of September 1, 2017, that by-election will need to be held before March 1, 2018. I will provide more information on that event as it becomes available. For now, however, please see below for some items and reminders related to the Saskatoon Fairview by-election.

Election Proclamation and Polling Locations

You will find attached to this communique a copy of the Saskatoon Fairvew by-election proclamation. The proclamation lists a number of important pieces of information including polling locations, key dates, and contact information for the returning office.

If you would like to receive a list of polling locations in an Excel spreadsheet, please email Jennifer Colin at [email protected].

Any changes to these polling locations (from what is shown on the proclamation and the Excel file, should you choose to receive it) will be communicated to you via a communique and posted on our website.

Nomination Deadline – Reminder

You all know that the nomination deadline is Tuesday, August 22 at 2 p.m. and, as per legislation, extensions cannot be granted. To avoid any last-minute issues, I do encourage you to have your candidates set up a meeting with the returning officer in advance of that date.

Preliminary Voters List

I wanted to send one last reminder that the preliminary voters list for Saskatoon Fairview is available on our FTP site in both PDF and CSV format. If you have any questions about accessing the FPT site, contact Son Lu, IT Analyst, at [email protected].

Update to Register of Political Parties

And finally, just a quick reminder that under section 226 of The Election Act, 1996, you are required to update or confirm the information found in the Register of Political Parties by Monday, August 21. You can email your statement to Jennifer Colin – there is no need to provide a hard copy.

I visited our returning office yesterday and was pleased with the energy and professionalism of our staff there.  We look forward to working with you over the course of this by-election and hope that you will be in touch with us with any questions or concerns.

Dr. Michael Boda
Chief Electoral Officer
Province of Saskatchewan
