September 20, 2022. Five straight days of voting at three locations in the provincial constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin begins today at Noon.

Advance voting for any voters in Saskatoon Meewasin will be open September 20 to 24, Noon to 8 p.m. each day. Advance voting turnout will be posted on our website each morning, beginning on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at www.elections.sk.ca/saskatoonmeewasin2022.

The three advance voting locations are:

  • YWCA, 510 25th Street East, Saskatoon
  • Saskatoon Meewasin Returning Office, 616 Duchess Street, Saskatoon
  • Rusty MacDonald Branch Library (Main Entrance), 225 Primrose Drive, Saskatoon

“Advance voting continues to be a favoured option for many voters,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “In fact, in Saskatoon Meewasin in the 2020 General Election, 44 per cent of the 7,221 ballots cast were done during the five days of advance voting. This option is open to any voter in Saskatoon Meewasin, and our election officials in Saskatoon are certainly ready for this week.”

To vote in this by-election, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, have lived in Saskatchewan for at least the past six months, and ordinarily be a resident in the constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin on August 29, 2022, the day the by-election was called. You must show ID at the voting place before you get a ballot. A list of acceptable ID is at www.elections.sk.ca/id.

“Voters will notice a few differences this event, as we are introducing technology at advance voting locations,” says Dr. Boda. “For the first time in a provincial electoral event, advance voting workers will use laptops instead of paper materials to do their work. This change will result in faster service for voters, a better working experience for election workers, and real-time data for registered political parties and candidates.”

“This is all part of Elections Saskatchewan’s modernization program and is an important step in planning for the next general election, scheduled for October 2024.”

The ballot boxes used during advance voting remain sealed until 8 p.m. on by-election night, September 26. At that time, the boxes are opened and ballot counting begins just as it does for all ballots cast on by-election day.

The registration deadline for this event was September 15, 2022. As of that day, there are 12,292 registered voters in Saskatoon Meewasin. All these voters will receive a voter information card with details of where and when to vote. Eligible voters who are not registered can still vote by registering in-person when they arrive at a voting place on by-election day, September 26.
