Saskatchewan’s six registered political parties have filed their annual financial returns, including donations and contributions, for the fiscal period of January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016.

Statutory reporting is the process chosen by the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan for Elections Saskatchewan to report on activities. Such reporting provides an annual update of activities for the Legislative Assembly and the public.

These registered political party fiscal period returns can be found here.

Per The Election Act, 1996, Section 250(1), all registered political parties in Saskatchewan must file an annual return with respect to the party’s receipts and expenses for the fiscal year. A return must include a summary of operating expenses, and must set out the amount of money and the commercial value of goods and services provided as a contribution in the fiscal year by individuals, corporations, trade unions, unincorporated organizations or associations, and another other persons. A return must also set out the name of each person who made a contribution in excess of $250 in the fiscal year to the registered political party.

“Our practice has been to post these returns, as filed and as reviewed by my office, to our website in a timely manner,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “This year, for the first time, we are also posting contribution details, including class of donor, amount and donor name where required, in a downloadable CSV (comma-separated values) file. This is consistent with my office’s priority of making information readily available in a more searchable and usable manner.”
