August 20, 2018 – Elections Saskatchewan is now accepting official nominations of candidates for the September 12 provincial by-election in the constituency of Regina Northeast.

As stated in Section 31 of The Election Act, 1996, nomination day for candidates must be a minimum of 16 days before polling day and must not be on a Sunday or a holiday. Nomination papers must be filed with that candidate’s constituency returning officer before 2:00 p.m. on nomination day, August 27, 2018.

To qualify as a candidate in the Regina Northeast by-election, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six months before the day the by-election was called (which is February 16, 2018);
  • Ordinarily be a resident of the constituency of Regina Northeast on the date the by-election is called (which is August 16, 2018).

After determining your eligibility, a candidate files nomination papers that include signatures of at least four voters in your constituency and pays a $100 nomination deposit to Elections Saskatchewan.
