May 1, 2024 – For the second straight year, May has been proclaimed by the Province of Saskatchewan as Voter Registration Month. All eligible voters are encouraged to register, check, or update their voter information during the month.
“Last year, I brought forward the voter registration month idea, and this year it takes on even more importance as we prepare for the October provincial general election,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer for Saskatchewan. “There is a strong connection between being a registered voter and casting a ballot come election time. Promoting registration is a tangible thing my office can do to make it easier for people to vote.”
Voter registration is important because soon after the election officially begins this fall, all registered voters will receive their personalized voter information card in the mail. This card details where and when voting locations are open, from the beginning of Voting Week until the last day of voting, scheduled for October 28, 2024. If you are not on the voters list, you do not receive your personalized card in the mail.

Elections Saskatchewan estimates there are about 817,000 eligible voters currently in the province. As of today, there are 806,716 registered voters on the voters list, which translates to an overall coverage of 98.7 per cent.
“I know our current coverage rate is very high, and that’s great,” says Dr. Boda. “But it is one thing to simply be on the list, and something else to make sure your information is accurate and current. Any registered voter who has moved in the past year, or recently changed their name, is encouraged to click on our website and update their own information. It only takes a minute and can make the difference in receiving a voter card or not.”
“Registration month is just one of many activities underway as we ramp up for next fall,” says Dr. Boda. “Last month we held in-person training sessions for returning officers and election clerks in Regina and Saskatoon. This training included sessions on our internal systems and processes that go on behind the scenes to make elections happen, as well as better preparing our field leaders to build their own constituency teams of workers and to successfully deliver all the voting opportunities that now exist in a general election.”
“Next month, in early June, we will begin taking applications from any voter who prefers to vote by mail instead of in-person next fall. We start accepting and processing these mail-in ballot applications early, so we are ready to send out vote by mail kits to each approved applicant shortly after the writ of election is issued next September or October.”
