October 4, 2023 – New constituency maps that will be used in Saskatchewan’s next general election in 2024 are now available on the Elections Saskatchewan website. The new maps can be found at www.elections.sk.ca/2024maps.
The new constituencies come into effect at the time of the next provincial election, scheduled for October 28, 2024. Until then, the current constituency and polling division boundaries remain in effect for any by-elections that may occur.
Pursuant to The Constituency Boundaries Act, 1993, a Constituency Boundaries Commission is appointed every 10 years following the release of census data by Statistics Canada. The mandate of the Commission is to redraw the provincial constituency boundaries to ensure every constituency has roughly the same number of voters. The Commission’s final report was tabled in the Saskatchewan Legislature on October 27, 2022. That report can be found at https://www.saskboundaries.ca/reports/.
The Act specifies that the Commission recommends boundaries for the 59 constituencies south of the line that divides them from the two northern constituencies, Athabasca, and Cumberland. The Commission was guided by the principle that every vote should bear an equal value to the extent practical, subject to those variations considered necessary because of sparsity, density, or relative rates of growth; accessibility, size, shape, or physical features of regions; or special community or diversities of interest, as permitted by the governing legislation.
Elections Saskatchewan (ESK) is the province’s nonpartisan election management body and an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. ESK directs and supervises the administration of provincial electoral events including Saskatchewan’s next general election, scheduled, by legislation, for October 28, 2024.
