REGINA, April 18, 2016 – With the final count of all ballot cast for the 28th General Election now complete, Elections Saskatchewan has determined that no constituencies meet the requirements that entitle an automatic recount.
According to The Election Act 1996, there are two circumstances whereby a request for a recount by a candidate or business manager would be granted automatically: If the two candidates with the most votes have the same number of votes following the final count; or if, after the final count, the margin of victory of the candidate declared elected is less than the total number of all unopened ballot envelopes, rejected ballots and ballots objected to.
While candidates or their business managers are no longer entitled to an automatic recount upon request, by legislation, they have until Tuesday, April 26, 2016, the day before the return of writs on April 27, to request a recount.
Requests in the former category would have been made directly to Elections Saskatchewan. Requests in the latter category are made via application to a judge who may or may not approve the application based on the reasoning the applicant provided in requesting the recount. If accepted by a judge, the procedures for conducting the recount are prescribed in The Election Act 1996.

More detailed results will be provided in the Statement of Votes, to be published in Fall 2016, and include poll-by-poll results and voter turnout figures that are inclusive of all voters registered at the end of election day.
