January 26 – Elections Saskatchewan reminds all eligible voters to ensure they are registered and on the voters list in advance of the April 4 provincial election.
“If you’re an eligible voter, it’s important to be on the voters list,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “Being on the voters list makes your voting experience easier and faster. Adding yourself to the list only takes a minute, and can be done over the phone or on our website.”
To vote in the April 4 provincial election you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Have lived in Saskatchewan for at least the six months before the day the election is called.
There are also special eligibility rules for Canadian military personnel, students and British subjects. More information and videos on voter eligibility are available at www.elections.sk.ca/voters.

Voter Information Cards (VICs) will be mailed to all registered voters immediately after the writ drops for the April 4 election. If you are an eligible voter and do not receive a VIC in the mail, you can register to vote online or by calling us.
There are an estimated 815,000 eligible voters in Saskatchewan. As of January 22, 2016 there are 662,703 names on the Saskatchewan’s voters list, or 81 per cent of the eligible voters.
Legislation changes in 2014 now allow Elections Saskatchewan to create and maintain a permanent register of voters. The first step in this process started in spring 2015 by adding federally registered voters to the provincial register. Letters were mailed to more than 428,000 households to confirm information of those living in these households.
“We’re evolving the registration process in our province, a process that no longer requires a full, province-wide, door-to-door enumeration,” says Dr. Boda. “Election officers will only be going door-to-door in select neighbourhoods with high mobility or new residential development.”
Elections Saskatchewan is the province’s independent, impartial, professional election management body. Given a mandate from the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly, it organizes, manages and oversees provincial electoral events, including the April 4, 2016 general election.
