November 30, 2022 – Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan, today announced that Saskatchewan United Party has completed the requirements to become a registered political party in Saskatchewan effective November 30, 2022.

On the official E-509 form submitted to Elections Saskatchewan, Application to Chief Electoral Office for Registration of a Political Party, the party abbreviation is Sask United Party, party leader is Ms. Nadine Wilson, chief official agent is Pat Rutherford, and the political party office where notices and documents may be delivered is located in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.

The Election Act, 1996 sets out the requirements that a political party must meet in order to become registered. This includes submitting a petition in the prescribed form, signed by at least 2,500 voters, 1,000 of whom must reside in at least ten different constituencies, with a minimum of 100 voters from each of those constituencies. All signatures on the petition must have been written within six months of the date the political party’s application was submitted.

“My office has verified that Saskatchewan United Party’s application to become a registered political party meets all requirements of The Election Act, 1996,” said Dr. Boda.

In Saskatchewan, a political party must be registered to incur expenses, solicit, and receive contributions, participate in the province’s political contributions tax credit regime, and field candidates for election to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. November 30, 2022 is the first day that Sask United Party may issue tax receipts for contributions.

This brings the number of registered political parties in Saskatchewan to seven. More information on the province’s political parties can be found at www.elections.sk.ca/candidates-political-parties/political-parties/
