May 9, 2018 – The Prime Minister announced yesterday the nomination of Mr. Stéphane Perrault as Chief Electoral Officer of Canada. Mr. Perrault has been the Acting Chief Electoral Officer of Canada since December 2016.
“I know Mr. Perrault well and have worked closely with him as one of fourteen Chief Electoral Officers in the country. I look forward to continuing to engage with and support him in organizing, implementing and shaping the future of democratic elections in Canada,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Saskatchewan’s Chief Electoral Officer.
Dr. Boda was interviewed for the same position in November of last year. “It was a genuine honour to have been considered seriously for such an integral role within our democracy,” he says. “Moving forward, I continue to be excited to work with others to facilitate better governance, foster meaningful democratic engagement, and organize secure and effective electoral events that meet electoral best practice and international standards.”
Dr. Boda has been Saskatchewan’s Chief Electoral Officer since June 2012. His term continues until 12 months following the province’s 29th General Election in November 2020. Under his direction, Elections Saskatchewan has conducted the province’s 28th General Election in 2016 and six by-elections held between November 2014 and March 2018. Born and raised in Regina, he holds a doctorate in Law from Oxford University and a doctorate in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University. His expertise in the administration of elections is drawn from extensive electoral experience gained in Canada and abroad where he has held a number of senior executive and advisory positions.
