Background

Elections Saskatchewan (ESK) is an independent, non-partisan agency of the Legislative Assembly charged with the mandate of directing and supervising the administrative and financial conduct of provincial electoral events.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Electoral Operations the Electoral Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting in the direct delivery of all election operations in the field through ongoing contact with field staff. The position helps to ensure the operational preparedness of Elections Saskatchewan for any election event. The Electoral Operations Assistant supports the development and implementation of critical election processes for election readiness and the conduct of election events including preparation, guidance and instructions for field staff as directed. The Electoral Operations Assistant will provide ongoing advice and support to field staff following the delivery of field training programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the SRO and RO team by ensuring their understanding of the election process, their preparedness for conducting an election event, their preparedness for recruiting election workers and their preparedness for the conduct of training of election workers.
  • Provides guidance and support to the SRO and RO team in the operational conduct of an election event including interpretation of legislation and ESK policy and assistance with process delivery.
  • Provides ongoing liaison between the SRO and RO team and Head Office, providing assistance with routine electoral operations, implementation of critical election processes and responding directly to queries or escalating complex and sensitive issues to the Director for resolution.
  • Supports field staff through knowledge and experience with the on-line Elections Management System (SEMS) with respect to daily duties and electoral information.
  • Contributes to the performance evaluation of the SRO and RO team by providing insight, input and fact-based recommendations to the Director of Electoral Operations regarding strengths and areas for improvement.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Operations and SRO team evaluates the effectiveness of election operations training programs, processes and delivery.
  • Participates in the accumulation and documentation of elections operations experience to ensure lessons learned and historical changes in elections processes are appropriately documented for future reference and decision-making.

Position

Term position, beginning immediately and terminating approximately 5 months after the 30th general election. The 30th General Election is scheduled for October 28, 2024.

Skills and Abilities

  • Secondary school graduation supplemented by demonstrated experience in a role requiring ongoing communication/liaison with clients, stakeholders or field staff as well as the interpretation and application of policy or legislation. An equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.

Pay Grade and Salary

MCP4: $63,540-$82,620/year
